South Texas

Sterling operates five mature producing fields in South Texas, with significant upside potential from re-completions or new drilling.

  • 14% working interest in the Tom East field, located in Brooks County produces from the Vicksburg formation at approximately 13,000 feet
  • 50% working interest  in the Scott & Hopper field also in the Brooks County producing from the Vicksburg formation at the 9,000 foot level
  • 100% working interest in the Big Wells field, in Dimmitt County produces from the San Miguel formation approximately 5,000 feet deep
  • 55% working interest in the Tom Lyne field is in Live Oak County and produces from the Wilcox formation at the 10,000 foot level
  • 75% working interest in the Westhoff Ranch field, located in Jackson County producing from the Frio formation which is approximately 7,000 feet deep


In 2006, eight wells were drilled in the South Texas region, of which seven were successful including the Scott & Hopper 5-well producing 400 Mcfed (gross), 140 Mcfed (net); two wells in the South Texas Olmos exploration project producing 300 Mcfed (gross), 80 Mcfed (net) and three wells in the South Texas royalty acreage producing 4 Mmcfed (gross), 1 Mmcfed (net). There are seven additional wells planned for the second half of 2007, including an offset well to the Scott & Hopper 4-well, an 8,000 foot test of the Vicksburg formation in the Rincon field; three additional offset wells on the South Texas Royalty acreage, two offset wells in the South Texas Olmos formation and two development wells at Westhoff Ranch.
