Sterling Energy plc (“Sterling”), the AIM listed energy company with activities in the Gulf of Mexico and Africa, today provides an update on its activities since the publication of its interims on 23 September 2005.

Application has today been made for 8,500,000 ordinary shares of 1p each in the Company ("Ordinary Shares") to be admitted to trading on the AIM market of the London Stock Exchange ("AIM"). The number of issued Ordinary Shares in issue will then be 1,401,950,558 Ordinary Shares and there will be 63,025,000 options in issue.

Hardman Resources Limited ("Hardman") provides the following progress report on its Mauritania offshore activities: PSC Area B: Labeidna-1 Exploration Well The Labeidna-1 wireline logging and sampling programme and an initial evaluation has been completed. The well is currently being plugged and abandoned as planned.

Hardman Resources Limited ("Hardman") provides the following progress report on its Mauritania offshore activities: PSC Area B: Tevet -2 ST1 Appraisal / Exploration Well In line with the last update on Tevet-2 ST1 on 25 October, Hardman Resources advises that wireline evaluation of the deeper target in this well indicates the presence of an 8 metre gross oil column within good quality Cretaceous sands.

Sterling draws the market’s attention to the following release by Woodside with reference to the situation in Mauritania. “Woodside Energy is continuing its operations in Mauritania following political developments overnight. Woodside, which operates the Chinguetti oil field development, about 90 kilometres offshore west of the capital Nouakchott, has maintained normal drilling operations except for a minor disruption due to delays in freight movements. All of Woodside’s staff and contractors have been accounted for and are safe. The company will continue to monitor the situation.”

Sterling Energy, the AIM listed (symbol: SEY) independent oil & gas exploration and production company, note that the following announcement was made earlier today by Woodside Petroleum: Woodside Mauritania Pty Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Woodside Petroleum Ltd., reports that the first three exploration locations for its 2005 Mauritanian exploration drilling sequence have been selected.

Hardman Resources Ltd ("Hardman") announces that the drilling rig “Stena Tay” has completed the drilling of the wells required for the first phase of the Chinguetti development project, offshore Mauritania. This drilling program included 5 new oil producers, 5 water injectors to maintain reservoir pressure, and 1 gas injection well drilled on the Banda discovery for disposal of the Chinguetti associated gas.

Hardman Resources Ltd (‘Hardman’) provides the following report on the evaluation of the wireline data: Tiof-6 Appraisal Well - PSC B - Progress and Current Status: Since the last announcement made on Tuesday 11 January, evaluation of wireline and drilling data, including downhole pressure measurements and fluid sampling indicates that Tiof-6 has intersected oil over a gross interval of at least 123 metres.

At midnight (GMT) 10 January the logging programme was continuing.
